The "Karshi" workshop was founded in 1955, at the Mamila neighborhood in Jerusalem, by the Judaica artist and designer - Chaham Naftali Karshi. Chaham Naftali left the mountains of Kurdistan, bordering Iran, Turkey and Russia, and arrived in Jerusalem with the founding of the State of Israel. He brought with him all the vitality and traditional creative joy for which the Jewish community of his birthplace is renowned. While still a new immigrant in the State of Israel, he studied the various crafts, employing local raw materials. In 1955 he was ready to open the workshop for developing artistic creativity, in the Mamila neighborhood in Jerusalem, which was then the boundary line between West and East Jerusalem. As a self-taught man, Chaham Naftali learned the art and craft of Judaica as it evolved throughout the ages, studying traditional Jewish artistry as well as cultural needs. Today, his sons continue vigorously to develop this traditional craft, employing high-end computer technology in a modern workshop and factory. The "Karshi" Judaica line is a fresh blend of modern design, retaining the traditional flavor of Chaham Naftali. The original designs have won the hearts of many customers of Art and Judaica in Israel and throughout the world. The variety of "Karshi" products are useful for many occasions, including Sabbath and Holidays, and new products are introduced on a monthly basis, all retaining the traditional beauty of "Karshi".
